Urgent Need

The deep emotional wounds and trauma carried by foster children require specialized therapeutic support that state funding rarely covers fully. Your gift makes this life-changing therapy accessible.

Seedling Root to Bloom provides essential, trauma-informed therapy and support programs that ensure foster children and their families can heal together and thrive.

We know from the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) data that children are more likely to present with developmental differences when exposed to a range of factors. These include: abuse, neglect, household substance abuse or mental illness, exposure to substances in utero, premature birth, and poor opportunities, low-income households, and attachment with primary caregivers due to the continuous home disruptions within the foster system.

Direct treatment therapy and home programs can be difficult for families to manage alone, often feeling overwhelming, lacking nuance for specific issues, and requiring time in an already busy world.

Unfortunately, many foster homes close within the first year due to stress, fatigue, secondary trauma, and the demands of endless meetings, appointments, paperwork, and court hearings, compounded by misinformation from the state. These homes need support to meet the child's special needs better.

Not all the care that Seedling Root to Bloom aims to provide would be reimbursable:

  • Many children lack health insurance coverage for various reasons, such as difficulty renewing coverage, exceeding the poverty line, or insufficient income to afford marketplace insurance.
  • Children in foster care under the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) often retain only their original state's Medicaid, rather than the Medicaid in their current state.
  • Medicaid does not reimburse support services, such as IEP meetings and caregiver education, nor for services when the child is not present.
  • Additionally, Medicaid may only cover one therapy evaluation, which we prefer to be conducted by the therapists providing direct care, such as those at Children's Mercy Hospital, Pediatric Connections, or Seedling Pediatric Therapies of Kansas City.

Help us nurture the seeds of healing and build strong, stable roots for children in foster care.

Would you consider a gift of $300 today to fund one month of therapeutic support?
